Blue
Lake RR Crossing This railroad crossing is found in Blue
Lake. This one of the only places you can still see any
railroad tracks left from the AMRR although the right-of-way still
exists. It is just down the street from the Blue Lake Museum
in the old Depot, which is a must stop for any visitors.
Currently they are open from 1-4 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and
Sundays. They have artifacts and photos and informational
archives about the AMRR.
No. 7,
Arcata and Mad River Railroad
A 50-ton 2-truck
Shay, Lima, 1918, Cn. 3014, built in 1918 for the Lamson
Logging Company in Euphala, Washington as their No. 1, this
locomotive was purchased second-hand by A.& M.R.R. in 1942. It
hauled logs and lumber freight the 7.5 miles between Korbel and
Korblex and on the 10 mile Northern Redwood Lumber Company logging
railroad. In 1956 Simpson Redwood Company purchased the N.L.R. and
A.& M.R.R. and later abandoned the logging railroad out of
Korbel. No. 7 was donated to city of Arcata, California, for display
in a city park. From 1970 to 73 it was returned to service on
A.& M.R. to pull a tourist train. After again being retired and
returned to the city, it was given to the Timber Heritage
Association (THA) in 2008. THA moved this
locomotive to the old Hammond Lumber Roundhouse in Samoa,
CA.

Trestles
#101 Arcata
& Mad River Railroad
AMRR purchased this GE 44 Ton
Diesel from the Pine Flat Dam Project in 1954. The
diesel, ser. no. 30473 was built in
August 1950. In 187 or 1988 the current owners sold the GE 44T to Mead Westvaco
in De Ridder, Louisiana. This company donated the Diesel to
the Timber Heritage Association, a non-profit located in Humboldt
County in Northern California. After a journey by rail and
then by truck the #101 arrived in Arcata, California in May
2005. Examination of the locomotive showed it was in good
condition, but needed some work. This Diesel will be restored
to operational condition for use on a planned Humboldt Bay Scenic RR
Tourist and Excursion Train. There is a separate page
(AMRR#101 Button at left) with photos and more
information about this locomotive.
